Cahill misses Black Cats cut

CHELSEA have missed the deadline to sign Gary Cahill in time for him to face Sunderland in the Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge today.

But the England defender HAS agreed an £80,000-a-week, five-year deal and travelled to London last night ahead of a medical today.
Blues had hoped to wrap up the deal before yesterday's midday cut-off but still plan to parade Cahill before today's match.
It is now more than a fortnight since Bolton accepted a £7million bid from Chelsea for their prize asset, who was in the final six months of his contract.
Negotiations hit a snag when Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas revealed the club and the player were miles apart in terms of salary.
Cahill is thought to have wanted £100,000 per week, £30,000 more than Chelsea were originally willing to pay as they seek to reduce their wage budget before player and club settled on a figure in between.
Villas-Boas remained confident of a positive outcome throughout dealings, but was ready to move quickly for other targets had the deal collapsed.
He confirmed: "It's all part of the negotiation.
"We kept a couple of other options available."
Meanwhile, Chelsea have rejected a £3m bid from QPR for defender Alex.
The Brazilian, frozen out at Stamford Bridge, is said to want out of England all together.
