Transfer news latest and injuries ahead of Chelsea v Sunderland | English Premier League

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed they have received a bid for defender Alex from an unnamed Premier League side.

The Brazilian, 29, has been frozen out at Stamford Bridge since putting in a transfer request in early December.

"There has been an approach from a Premier League club, so we have to listen to offers," said Villas-Boas.

There has been speculation that QPR are interested but Chelsea would not confirm who put in the bid.

Meanwhile the Blues manager remains hopeful of completing a deal for Bolton defender Gary Cahill.

Talks have been on-going between the England international and Chelsea after the two clubs agreed a fee last month.

Wage demands were said to be the stumbling block, while several newspapers reported that Chelsea were ready to pull out of the deal.

Villas-Boas refused to criticise the 26-year-old or put a deadline on the deal.

"Still an ongoing negotiation, not that we don't want it resolved as soon as possible," he said.

"I'm sure that all of the parties are protecting their interests."

Whether Cahill becomes a Blue or not will have no impact on Alex who is hoping to leave the club before the end of January.

His transfer request was granted and he, along with Nicolas Anelka, were banned from training with the first team squad.
