Bolton defender Gary Cahill is due to undergo a medical examination at Chelsea later on Saturday after reaching agreement with the London club over his personal terms, several British media outlets reported.
The 26-year-old centre-back's move to Stamford Bridge had been expected after the Premier League clubs agreed a £7 million ($10.7m) transfer fee two weeks ago.
However, completion of the deal was delayed after Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas revealed the club and the player's representatives were "miles apart" when it came to agreeing Cahill's salary.
According to reports, Cahill has now agreed a basic weekly salary of around £80,000, leaving only the expected formality of a medical for the deal to be confirmed.
Cahill's arrival has paved the way for the exit of Chelsea's Brazilian centre-back Alex, who is now set to join west London side Queens Park Rangers.
Alex has not played for Chelsea since submitting a transfer request in November, but is now likely to become new QPR coach Mark Hughes' first signing as manager at Loftus Road.
